Expressing personality in different markets

Graham Jerome-Ball, an independent consultant working on behalf of Sealand Projects asked us to help to re-position the company by refreshing its visual identity using our business branding design skills.

Based in Aberdeen, Sealand Projects provides a range of project support services to the oil, gas and renewables industries around the world. The renewables energy sector is growing fast and provides many opportunities for their transferable engineering skills in the future however the company is still regarded and valued in the traditional oil and gas markets and so must appeal to clients in all three sectors.

The company also wanted to encourage fresh thinking younger engineers to join their team and grow their consultancy services, so they had to look, feel and behave in a more relevant and contemporary way.

Bringing the brand to life

Following Graham Jerome-Ball's research and development of a new brand platform to clarify the broader offer, we re-designed the logo, utilising a Seahorse in the shape of an ’S’ to endorse the Sealand name. We also updated the colour palette, corporate font and oceanic imagery to achieve the desired position.

We proposed the seahorse as these fascinating and iconic creatures live in habitats that are highly sensitive to pollution, climate change and other human impacts. It reflects the company's approach towards sustainability of the environment and maintaining biodiversity.

Engagement for serious businesses doesn't have to be dull

Along with the identity we designed stationery and created a number of 'hero images', to create numerous different versions of the business cards so everyone had a mix of background images. We felt that it as important to feature photography and video footage of the sea, which is the main environment that the company is active in.

Once the new visual identity had been approved we re-designed the website, incorporating video shot by Charlie Jones with his drone to tell the new brand story clearly and succinctly on the home page. Contact Charlie.

We also re-designed all the business stationery, social media assets and the new brand was then applied to workwear and merchandising items as well as the invitation to the launch event, in Aberdeen. We also created a new PowerPoint template for presentations and a simple set of brand guidelines.
