We couldn’t resist a good old pun and this is an egg-static result for the Waitrose own-brand Easter egg. It may not look like a traditional Easter egg, but the beautifully designed chocolate avocado has proved to be a runaway success for British supermarket chain Waitrose.

Launched last month, demand for the unique avocado egg has been huge and in the final run-up to the Easter weekend, Waitrose has sold out in stores and online. Waitrose is now frantically attempting to restock the novelty egg in stores as avocado aficionados join the crazed Easter hunt to grab one of the coveted eggs off the shelves.

Their avocado-shaped Easter egg is a perfect example of how Waitrose continues to raise the bar when launching new products to their customers. Avocados have become a staple food for the health-conscious millennial generation, who with young families to feed represent core shoppers for Waitrose. With a large range of own-brand Easter eggs designed to capture children’s imaginations, the astute supermarket chain produced an equally enticing novelty egg for the millennial mummies. The £8 egg is designed to look like half a giant avocado, but the taste is pure Belgian dark chocolate on the outside, white chocolate with natural green colouring in the middle and a stone dusted with cocoa powder.

In summary, Waitrose has ticked all the boxes in successfully launching a novelty confectionery product that has become their fastest selling own-brand Easter egg in the supermarket’s history of 114 years.

Competition terms & conditions

The Promoter: Greenfisher, Building L044, University of Reading Campus, London Road, Reading RG1 5AQ. The competition is open to all UK residents over the age of 18, except for employees of Greenfisher, their families, or anyone else who is professionally associated with the promotion. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition. By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions. Internet access is required. Only one entry to the competition is permitted per person and can be placed on one of the social platforms used to promote the competition on (Instagram, Twitter and Facebook). Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified. To enter, entrants must comply with the instructions of the social media post. The competition is open from 12 Noon on Saturday 24 March 2018 and the closing date is Thursday 29 March 2018, all entries to be received by 11.59pm unless otherwise stated. No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received by the closing date and time for whatever reason. The Promoter reserves the right to amend or withdraw the promotion if deemed necessary due to circumstances outside of its reasonable control. There will be five (5) Winners. The prize consists of 1x Waitrose chocolate avocado Easter egg. The prizes are not transferable and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. Waitrose chocolate avocado egg

INGREDIENTS: Dark chocolate (87%) (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa powder, emulsifier (soya lecithin), vanilla), white chocolate (12%) (sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, emulsifier (soya lecithin), flavouring), cocoa mass, skimmed milk powder, sugar, cocoa powder, cocoa butter, colours (spirulina, carotenes, curcumin), flavouring. Dark chocolate contains cocoa solids 70% minimum. White chocolate contains cocoa solids 28% minimum, milk solids 21% minimum.
